Mother’s Day At The Birmingham Botanical Gardens

After having a slow morning at Maple House, we celebrated Mother's Day at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens during golden hour in their rose garden. It was such a lovely way to spend the late afternoon together, just the three of us, & the absolute best Mother's Day gift I could have asked for.

Ever since I became a stay-at-home parent last summer, I've rarely gotten dressed in something that wasn't made out of lycra fabric. I’m usually barefaced with my hair in a messy bun. If you know, you know. Mother’s Day was the perfect excuse to change out of my usual loungewear & wear a face full of makeup that’s been neglected in my vanity drawer.

I used this Luminous Silk Perfect Glow Flawless Foundation by Armani Beauty because my skin has been so dry from using Tretinoin for the past couple of weeks. My skin felt really dull so I focused on my skincare & wore this foundation by applying it with a Clé de Peau Beauté makeup sponge that made my base look airbrushed.

The price aside, this foundation delivers a luminous & glowy skin-like texture for a natural makeup look that lasts all day. My skin looked flawless & glowy the entire afternoon in the warm weather. I’ve linked some of the products & outfits used but will share more of my beauty favorites in an upcoming blog post.

HOURS & ADMISSION

The gardens are open every day of the week all year-round. Admission and parking are free. Their hours vary from mid-March through early November & their spring/summer hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Birmingham Botanical Gardens has the following to offer its visitors:

  • Garden Center

  • Conservatory

  • Library at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

  • Leaf & Petal at the Gardens Gift Shop

  • The Gardens Café by Kathy G.

  • Free Garden Tours

  • Pop-Up Plant Sales

I have yet to visit their library & would love to go see it. They have a café that’s open from Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Their menu is unique in that it changes seasonally & it’s inspired by the feeling of being in the gardens. They source local greens & fresh produce giving it that farm-to-table vibe.

They have events every month & I may have to reserve a spot for their Rosé in the Roses event in June. Sipping a glass of rosé to celebrate their roses in bloom sounds like a great way to celebrate the start of summer.

PHOTOGRAPHY ETIQUETTE

If you plan on taking pictures at the botanical gardens, be mindful of the following rules:

  • Tripods, reflectors, & lighting for photos aren’t allowed (every photographer & social media content creator’s worst nightmare)

  •  Always stay on paths & turf areas

  • Only service animals are allowed

  • Please don’t feed the critters or fish in the pond

  • Don’t let your littles run wild & ruin this experience for others

The weather was perfect on this day & so many families were out celebrating in the rose garden with their loved ones. Here’s our best attempt at taking pictures on Mother’s Day & hope you enjoy our family outing.
