WHAT IS THE SNOO?
The SNOO Smart Sleeper is a bassinet that soothes your baby to sleep with womb-like swaying motion & ambient sound. It has a Mobile App to control & track your baby’s sleep patterns.
It was created by a pediatrician named Dr. Harvey Karp who came up with The 5 S’s method & wrote Happiest Baby on the Block. He believes newborns still need to have their environment mimic the womb while in their Fourth Trimester. The SNOO can detect when your baby is upset & increases the swaying motion with sound to help soothe them back to sleep in under a minute.

SNOO FEATURES
It has a detachable zip-up sleep sack with a built-in velcro swaddle that prevents any unsafe rolling while it holds your baby in the proper sleep position on their backs. The recommended use for the bassinet is from newborn up to six months of age or when your baby can get on both hands or feet.
There’s an option for Low Leg attachments & Leg Lifters. I wish I would have known about the leg lifters because Moosh developed reflux & would spit up when we lay him down in the SNOO after a feeding. The lifters are put on the legs of the head of SNOO to create a small, safe incline. They recommend these for babies who have a stuffy nose or reflux.
SNOO APP
You can control the SNOO bassinet from your phone to program your preferences. This feature allows you to choose how you want the SNOO to respond to your baby’s specific needs by:

Viewing baby’s daily, weekly, & monthly sleep tracking stats

Customize the motion at different levels (Baseline, Level 1, or Level 2)

Setting the volume of white noise from “very low” to “very high”

Adjusting the SNOO to be more or less responsive to your baby’s crying

The Daily Logs were so helpful in keeping track of Moosh’s naps & nighttime sleep. After a couple of months using the SNOO his longest sleep was eleven hours without any night wakings. It was honestly the most glorious sleep we’d had in weeks.
SANITIZATION
The SNOO undergoes a 5-step sanitization process before certifying that it’s ready to be shipped to a new family when you ship it back. They vacuum, sanitize, steam, replace sleep sacks & certify the safety features. Extra hygiene precautions during a Global Pandemic was a major selling point for me because I became a bit of a germaphobe that year.
THOUGHTS
We saw a drastic increase in Mooh’s sleep each month by getting on average 7 hours of sleep & then 10 hours of rest during his four-month Sleep Regression. If we decide to have another baby we would definitely rent it again. We felt there was a bit of a learning curve but that could have been because we were sleep deprived.
If you decide to rent the SNOO, I suggest getting the Sleep Sack Bundle but get an extra Sleep Sack in a Small for any accidents you’ll have. We learned the hard way after Moosh had a major blow-out in the middle of the night. We had to stay up to wash & dry the bedding. Definitely get a backup Sleep Sack that you can quickly swap out & get some more sleep.
If you can’t commit to getting the SNOO (because let’s be honest – it’s spendy) I recommend reading the 5 S’s, getting a weighted sleep sack (or swaddle), a white noise machine & blackout curtains. We came home to Maple House from the hospital & barely made it a week before ordering the SNOO but it was because I was recovering from a C-Section.
I wasn’t given any pain medication when I was discharged (my O.B. had to personally apologize to me for the incident) which made taking care of Moosh as well as my recovery painful & difficult. The SNOO definitely gave us longer stretches of sleep which I really believed helped in my recovery time.
